Richard Page’s Night On The Town Band is a group that explores Richard’s original compositions while allowing the players the freedom of their own sound and expression. The combination of woodwinds, trumpet (with many mutes), guitar, bass and drums provide a varied palette for listeners. The band has many influences, but most prevalent are the blues and world music. Expect to hear the dancing or party music of some of the best nightlife cities in the world!
Richard Page: Richard has performed with with many world-renowned artists. Most recently, he performed at the 2019 Ottawa Jazz Festival with the = Jazz Orchestra, led by Christine Jensen (who’s saxophone section included – Tara Davidson, Allison Au, Anna Webber and Claire Devlin). At the 2018 Ottawa Jazz Festival, Richard performed with the Jerry Granelli Group, which featured guitar legends Robben Ford and Bob Lanzetti. He also performed with Hilario Duran (as the baritone saxophonist/bass clarinetist with the Ottawa Latin Jazz Big Band) that year. Richard has shared the stage with Mike Rud (Juno Award Winner), Adrean Farrugia, Phil Nimmons and many other jazz greats.
Richard’s woodwinds have been featured on television on commercials, TV shows and movies, and can be heard on the Kidscreen award winning (Emmy and Canadian Screen Award nominated) Sesame Workshop/Nelvana cartoon, Esme and Roy.
Richard’s musical education was developed through a combination of his studies at Mohawk College (2005-2007) and many performing opportunities in his early career. He was a member of the Hamilton All-Star Jazz Band (2004-2008) and in 2007 travelled to Europe, performing at the Montreux and Vienne jazz festivals. Through his involvement in the HASJB and he was awarded the Noreen and Phil Nimmons Scholarship from the Steeltown Friends of Mohawk Jazz (2005 and 2007). Richard has studied with many renowned Canadian musicians, such as Kirk MacDonald, Petr Cancura, and spent several years studying with world-renowned woodwind artist, Tim Price.
Ed Lister: Edward Lister is a U.K born trumpeter, composer & educator who has been playing professionally since the age of 15. Edward graduated with a 2:1 BA Hons degree in Jazz performance & composition studies from Leeds College of Music (U.K). Edward has been based out of Ottawa, Canada since 2011 and currently runs 7 of his own ensembles as well as performing in a further 15. To date, Edward has recorded on over 30 albums in the Ottawa / Ontario region. Edward also owns and operates an entertainment agency called 'London Gentleman Records' which represents and works with local Ottawa talent. Edward has toured the globe and shared the stage with some of the best.
Since moving to Ottawa, Canada in 2011, Ed has performed and collaborated with a number of incredible North American musicians including Jann Arden, Sloan (Canadian rock legends), Jerry Granelli (Canadian drummer and composer who's best known work is the Charlie Brown Christmas) and the Temptations (Motown legends). Ed has also created many projects that were made possible by the opportunities and creative spaces that this city provides. These projects include his 11 piece 'Prime Rib Big Band' which has performed over 30 shows in it's 2 year existence including a standing monthly residency at the iconic 'Irene's Pub' in Ottawa, a 7 piece hyper funk ensemble, 3 tribute shows including tributes to Sly & the Family Stone and Hall & Oates. Ed performs as a session musician in a further 15 bands and ensembles in Ottawa which totals 22 bands that he is currently involved with. Ed's time is split equally between performance and composition. Since arriving in Ottawa Ed has written and performed over 350 original compositions. Ed has performed over 1500 shows of which over 75 have been music festivals across Ontario and Quebec and even a headlining show at the Sigashoara Blues Festival in Romania in 2018. Sam Westcott: Sam Westcott is an improvising guitarist, pianist and songwriter in Ottawa, Ontario. Originally from Topsail, Newfoundland, Westcott studied jazz guitar at St. FX University, and then English, and Creative Writing at Memorial University. His music, and teaching draws from, and combines elements of film score, jazz, electronic music, pop, and rock, as well as classical music, and world folk musics. Westcott is currently playing and recording with Ottawa-based groups OyaCombo, Ataraxia, and Amateur Painter.
Chris Pond: Chris is a Musician, Composer, Producer, Songwriter and Educator from St.John’s, Newfoundland. He has been teaching music privately and in a classroom setting for the past 7 years, with experience teaching Bass/Drums/Piano/Guitar/Theory and Improvisation. Chris completed a Bachelor of Music degree from St.FX University, where his main focus was Jazz Performance. His musical interests, though, are wide reaching; He has been involved on the east coast scene with a diversity of groups and genres including Pop, Jazz, Bluegrass, Hip-Hop, Funk/Soul. His own music borrows from all around the world, including musical elements from (but not limited to) Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Morocco and Uganda. With his friendly and individualized approach to teaching, Chris always communicates lessons in a way which encourages his students to have fun and to be creative.
Michel Delage: Drummer and percussionist Michel Delage grew up in Ottawa, On. Since graduating from the Humber College Jazz Performance Program in 2010, Michel has worked hard to immerse himself in as many types of music as possible. While in Toronto, he studied traditional Balinese gamelan music at the University of Toronto, Javanese gamelan music at the Indonesian consulate and he also studied traditional Thai music. Since returning to Ottawa Michel has fought a career as a professional drummer and teacher of music and drums. Michel is a busy and in demand jazz drummer.
