ABOUT

SOLD OUT!

Musical collaborators, life partners and even television co-stars,  Julie London and Bobby Troup made important and lasting contributions to the entertainment world during their long careers. Julie and Bobby were perhaps best known for “Cry Me A River” and “Route 66” respectively but they sang, played, wrote and produced so much more, individually and collectively, which this musical tribute will explore.

For this event, I’ll be joined by guitarist Kevin Barrett and bassist Alec Walkington.

Kevin Barrett, a popular and in-demand Toronto-based guitarist, producer, musical director, composer and teacher who is known for his exquisite guitar playing, sensitive accompaniment and excellent coaching.  We always look forward to when Kevin comes to Ottawa a few times a year to play and teach. And I am especially looking forward to my first public gig with Kevin and to collaborating with him to prepare and present this tribute concert. I am also delighted to be returning to perform at GigSpace, one of my favourite venues anywhere at which to present and attend concerts.

Alec Walkington is one of Montreal’s most respected bassists, largely due to his great time feel and strong improvisations. His impressive CV includes appearances with Joe Henderson, Curtis Fuller, Kenny Wheeler and Jimmy Heath, to name only a few. He is currently a member of the Kevin Dean Quintet. He has previously appeared at GigSpace in various combos including with musicians Peter Hum, Mike Rudd, Peter Bernstein and others.

In addition to the iconic songs mentioned above, we’ll feature some other tunes for which Julie and Bobby are known including “Goody Goody”, “Bye Bye Blackbird”, “No Moon At All”, “I’m In The Mood For Love” and ” ‘S Wonderful” performed and recorded by Julie, and “Lemon Twist”, “Girl Talk” and “Baby, Baby, All The Time” recorded and written or co-written by Bobby
